Afternoon all

Car went for mot last week, no dramas but did find a bit of fuel pipe rusting so cut it out and sleeved it with a flexi for the time being.

Now the car does not run right. Idling mega rich, then ok, then super lean then cutting out. Whilst driving it's just super rich all the time.

Could this be dirt in the fuel lines? Fuel pump, which is quite new, has started screeching randomly also.

Going to strip it down today but just wondered if anybody had any ideas. It must be dirt in the fuel lines somewhere as was running perfect before the section of fuel pipe was changed.

Cheers

Stuart

Could any swarf or rust have ended up in the pipe when you cut it? Was the feed or return pipe?

My two immediate questions. The pump starting to make a noise could be due to having ingested something, the two situations could be connected.

Exactly my thoughts.......until I got the car up on the ramp and saw the mechanic had left the fuel feed line clamped with mole grips!

Removed mole grips and problem solved!!

Cheap fix but not impressed with the mechanic!

I would have thought that too mr piggy upon reading my initial rambling. I can categorically state however that upon battering out the original post on my phone on the train I never quite captured the exact details exactly of who exactly was wielding tools at point of said incident!!

It is indeed my mates garage that I use a lot but the culprit was my mate's mate who is mechanic by day and then appears at night to do some homers before returning home. Clearly this makes him tired!

I have since seen him and he has been well and truly ripped to shreds!!

On top of this I do many daft things, and upon doing, I am more than happy to admit! Just wasn't me this time!! :D

Cheers

Hi, glad you sorted your problem. Hope to be replacing my fuel lines this weekend. Cut out rusty line over beam and had Pirtek make up all new replacements from tank to fuel rail including return for about £100. Had steel lines blasted and coat of 2pck. Should be good for another 25 years hopefully.
