Hi All,

I'm aware that this topic has been talked to death on the forum but thought I'd ask a question!

The exhaust note has been the least of my worries whilst I was removing the engine and making sure it runs BUT now the car works, I want to make it reflect me a bit more!

The car seems to have a glasspack welded into the centre section (no cat or anything) and a straight through pipe out of the back culminating in this the CCR125 on this page: http://www.custom-chrome.co.uk/Trims.html

These were already on the car when I bought it and to be honest they are far too loud. It sounds like a slightly meatier Corsa and that mixed with the fact that I'm a 25 year old using a 944 as a daily driver makes me look like a right twat.

These bits are all welded on (Seems like a pretty good job to be fair) and as I do all of the work myself I'm reluctant to go around cutting the exhaust all over the place and rewelding (very novice welder!).

Is it feasible that I can cut the trim and section of exhaust off at the rear, replace with a Dansk backbox and it will run properly and slightly more quietly? Or do we think that the middle box would be the issue?

It also smells very rich, so that'll be the next issue!

Will

Hi I have to say Ihave a full Dansk system on my 2.5 Lux and it is also too loud for smooth touring which is what these cars are good for.
I have considered replacing the middle box with a "proper" silencer.
I like a fruity exhaust but hate boomy ones.

Dansk make a centre, but you can usually only find their rear section. The Dansk centre section includes a resonator.

Yours is loud because it has a straight pipe where it should have a resonator. Fit the correct part and itll be a lot quieter (you cant blame Dansk for that) and probably nicer to drive too.

I'm using a Promax middle box and Dansk rear silencer. Sounds very docile but a nice rasp when you clog it. I have to agree the old system did sound a bit Corsaish. The resonator came with the Dansk rear section.
It was very quiet when first fitted but after a Knockhill track session the rear of the car was covered in sound deadening, a little louder but not bad enough to feel a tw*t.
The 993 is a different story but that flat 6 noise is just music to my ears.
The stainless construction of the Dansk system seems to have changed the tone of the exhaust as well.

Oh yes I can blame :) I do have their full system including the centre box, it just is not good enough and resonates.

I have only one silencer and a vortex both towards the rear of the car (long straight centre pipe) whilst it sounds quite throaty on tick over at speed the voxtex unit actually makes it quieter.

Most people complain that Dansk replacements aren't loud enough, even after they have settled. Mine was only just noticeable in a car without sound deadening and with plastic windows all-round.

Mine is perhaps a poor example.
I have the receipt for it from Europarts and it had only done a few thousand miles (stainless systems usually quieten down with a bit of soot in them) and I had to weld it up as it had split in a couple of places as the warranty had finished.
We have discussed Dansk exhausts before and the conclusion was that they vary in quality.

Thanks all,

Had another look under the car and it in fact has 2 glass packs! Explains the noise!

Might have to get a Dansk from bottom of headers to rear

Got the dansk one on Sunny, and hate the sound it makes. Planning to get a new rear section from OPC, not cheep but the last one lasted years and sounded right.
