Post subject: | 944 Alternator Compatibility |
Hi All, Good news, the car is still going 500 miles after a new clutch, oil seals, belt, HT leads, sensors, engine mounts and a few other bits and bobs! I still have some idle issues where the car drops to 500 revs and bounces up to 700 revs. I suspect that my alternator has died as I changed the voltage regulator which helped for about a day and then the volts dropped again and it runs at between 10-12 volts irrespective of revs. Another member on here helped me out by supplying an alternator at a good price, the only issue is that it seems to be from an S2. Mine is a 1983 Lux - does anyone know if these are compatible? Will |

as long as the mounts are the same I would think so, just higher amp output |

I have an 115 amp alternator from an S2 on my '85.5. Goes straight on, but you will need the matching cowl for the cooling duct as well as it's bigger. |

You should change the pulley as its a six run belt on the series two cars, as opposed to the five run type found on series one cars. That said, my own series one has a later alternator fitted and no one bothered, and it didn't suffer unduly. |
