Holaa... I saw a post a while ago where someone was after some ABS sensors... My light is on all the time now but i was wondering if it's going to be a sensor at fault... So I need a good one to check with...anyone got a spare to sell or lend ? Cheers Greg |

So, I bought a couple of ABS sensors from Nick... They arrived in double-quick time and this afternoon I planned to spend a few minutes fitting them. The front was a breeze, slipped out nicely and the new one slipped in just as easily. The rear was a complete b@stard as the hub had corroded around the sensor and really didn't want to let it go. Anyway, after a couple of hours of tapping and persuading then begging it to move (with a through driver and hammer), it finally gave up its resistance and came out. I had to clean up the mounting hole to get the other sensor in but eventually I got it fitted and connected. The test drive was a delight - the ABS warning triangle has finally gone, after 10 months of it staring me in the face it's finally gone. Hoorah! I trod firmly on the brake to feel what the brakes should be like only for .... the off-side front to lock up...! Now I suspect that the pump is fooked... Time to peel off the wing methinks. Just as an afterthought, the sensor I pulled out of the rear was properly mullered, dented and distorted - almost as though it had been hit with a hammer... It was only as I was chipping the corrosion away from the bore of the sensor mounting that i realised it was probably a build up of corrosion that caused the damage to the sensor casing - same kind of thing as plate lift! from start up turn the stereo off and slowly move off, the ABS should fire up before you reach 5mph and go off again. If no sound change the ABS relay for a known good one and retry the speed test if no noises the time to get stuck into the ABS pump. I had no ABS and no light the pump was a pile of rust as far as the motor was concerned, if its just the motor and pistons look for a Mercedes Pump. 0 265 200 043 Bosch Part Number, the pistons and motor are identical the valve block is different, even the relays are the same. as they were in the engine bay on the merc they are normally in great condition and an ideal donor for parts |

Thanks for the advice guys - I've never heard anything from the pump - what am I listening for?? I'm pretty much resigned to having to replace the pump I think as when I had the wing off last year the top of the pump housing had corroded pretty badly. Thankfully I've got one ready to go, but as I mentioned before I think I did a very VERY good job of glueing the wing back on, so it might be struggle to get it off again ... I'll have a poke around in the relay box too ... G |

To throw a curveball I had a fully working ABS system. No warning lights, pump primed at 5mph. Only issue was ABS was inop!! Turned out to be my pump. Changed it and all is well. So you can have a knackered pump that still primes. However going on the info you have provided there seems to be no pump priming activity whatsoever!! As waylander says, change the relay, then onto the pump! Stuart |

you should hear a 2-3 second whirr from the OS front wheel arch as the pump primes as you reach 3-5kph, that is not the sign the ABS is working fully but at least the motor runs, the pistons can be seized solid and the tops rusted off so the motor has no effect. |
