Car has been sat for a couple of weeks outside waiting for me to get to it. Finally got the time this morning to sort a few things before it goes in to Unit 11 on monday to get waterpump, belts and seals done. So I have to get the car running again ASAP.

Its a 944 2.5 na 1986

The car started first turn of key this morning (as it has done) and i drove it up onto the ramps and turned it off. Since then i have done a few jobs, would any of this affected the car starting
1. Removed power steering pump belt
2. Replaced the rubber section from AFM to throttle body, all resecured.
3. Replaced a section of vacuum line that goes from throttle body to the 2 actuators on fuel rail, it had come into contact with the head and melted through, however it started this morning in that condition (i didnt notice the melted line until i started working on the car). All vacuum lines in that area looked to be secure.
4. Replaced expansion tank, had to remove top of airbox to do this, all back in place and connected up.
5. Removed the forward most spark plug to check it. Replaced and HT lead reattached.

Since the car decided not to start i have also replaced the DME relay. Still no joy. The battery is fine (for now), the engine turns over as it should, it just wont fire. The first time i tried to start it after putting it on the ramps it tried to catch but died after a second. The only other thing is i can smell a faint smell of fuel after turning it over, but csnt see any obvious leaks.

Where is the fuel filter on these, and is it easy to inspect?

All help and suggestions welcome. Myself and the car are in Warrington so if any nearby member wants to drop by andlend a hand I will be here allday tomorrow.

Thanks

I had this with my 1988 924S, had me stumped. Replaced the DME ECU and voila!

The fuel filter is under the car inboard from the drivers side rear wheel under a cover. The fuel pump is in there too. Get someone to turn over the car and listen out for the pump working. Could have seized or the connections have come loose.

Update. I have spark all be it not the best i have seen. And after turning it over it trys breifly to fire. When i pull the plugs after turning over they are wet, so some fuel is getting through. The main thing since this morning is the car has been on ramps all day, if the fuel feed is weak would this be enough to reduce the fuel flow so it wont run?

Further question: the 2 vacuum actuators on top of fuel rail, what happens if one fails? Can you get overfuelling and hance kill the spark?

I had a similar issue last week. The car had been left standing for three weeks and did not want to start. I pulled the plugs and they were damp with fuel, i cleaned the plugs, distributor cap and rotor arm(although they looked like new), also sprayed wd40 into lead ends at distributor and plugs then checked again but was still getting a weak orange spark. Next i removed the coil and cleaned all connections again spraying king lead ends with wd40, also cleaned earth connections for engine. After this i was getting good strong blue spark, refitted spark plugs and car fired up first time, still ok.

Thanks all for replies. Current emergency is now over car is running again. Not entirely sure what was wrong, might have been a funny with immobiliser earlier in the day that lead to me flooding engine. Took all the plugs out and cleaned them, leftbit for an hour. Reset immobiliser, and turned it over, fired after about 10secs. Ran rough for a bit then smoothed out.
