I have noticed that my powersteering pump pulley is out of alignment. Looking down from the bonnet to the front of the engine the outside (left side from this angle) of the pulley is towards the front of the car. It is v close to the radiator bottom hose and obviously the belt is not running straight.

I have read a bunch of articles and looked at a lot of pics on the web but just cant get a clear handle on exactly how the pump is mounted to the engine. Just want to check my understanding so I can plan the job and order any parts I might need. I dont have the car in front of me, trying to get organised before going to fix it and recover it.

It looks to me like the pump mounts to the bottom of the engine with one big bolt that has a bush front and back. The pump pivots on this bolt and bushes, so that the belt tension can be adjusted with a double ended adjuster bar. I am assuming that the pump is at an angle because one of the bushes is missing.

If the above is roughly correct:
1. is it possible to order the bushes as individual items? and should I order both? Presuming that this will be an OPC item?
2. Will I be able to remove and replace the pump correctly without having to disconnect the fluid lines?

the pump has a stud on the front which goes through a bush and has a washer and nut on, which has gone missing possibly

numbers 6,13,10 in the picture

the rear also has a bush and a long bolt the goes into the pump casing numbers 11,12. this floats in the bottom balance shaft housing,

my buddy lost his out of a 968 the bush that is and the belt was all out of line, a new bush was £8 (944 347 442 00) and a nylock nut out of my big box of them

the pump swings about on the mounting and easy to do without disconnecting the lines

Thanks Waylander. That's a great help! Would seem most likely then that the front bush is missing and just the nut and washer put back on.

I had been looking at that picture somewhere else and just couldn't be 100% about how it was mounted.

Will I need to remove the pulley or just the belt to get at the front nut and bush? baring in mind the car will be on ramps and me on my back doing this (probably in the rain lol)

no need to remove the pulley, there is enough room to get a new bush in the hole. can be a bit tight to get in dont get it wonky

Got this one solved, back corner of the pump has broken off and bolt missing, amazingly bush is still there. Replacement pump obtained.
