Post subject:  Sunroof - locking when closed

I've been having such a tough time to get the sunroof to lock by itself when closing. The arms just retract all the way and I have to press and guess through the console switch to lock the roof. Today I stripped the mechanism housed in the boot. Reading the Clarkes garage article re the locking aspect, it suggested limit switches, which I was convinced would cure the issue. However after a good afternoon of tinkering I think I understand why the roof doesn't lock. Looking at the mechanism there is a plastic piece that moves up and down the metal guide. At the bottom of the guide are two limit/micro switches, which when activated by the sliding plastic piece should stop the arms in the locked position. However it looks like a section of the plastic has become detached from the main body, so when the plastic should go back to its start position, the main body is left behind. When being left behind the plastic is pushed further past the micro switches making them open.

My question is, should the two plastic sections be as one unit? I know this is a difficult question if you've not seen the mechanism in operation. Any help appreciated.

Just been looking at the workshop manual. It refers to the plastic piece as a Drive Dog. Is this right? Is this a part you can buy separately?

No, doesn't look like the part.

Here is the main body of the part. The plastic slider runs up and down this:

It's referred to as a cover via rosepassion. It's not a cover, it's a plastic piece that slides up and down the guide.

Hi Jasongibson

You were spot on with your picture. The reason I thought it wasn't that part was that mine was smashed to bits. The bit I had left looked nothing like the picture. I've spent the day tinkering and after much research, 100% that's the part. Good news they seem still available which is great. Also after electrical testing, one of the micro switches is faulty. Once that's replaced and the new plastic inserted the roof will 100% once again.

Cheers Jason
