It's one of those things I've read for years, that cars (especially old ones) don't like not being used. Until now I had not really experienced it, my old E30 325i (1990) did gradually improve over the summer months but not to any huge extent that you could REALLY feel.
The S2, after last weeks 800 odd miles was put away filthy into the garage on wednesday night, pushed out on Saturday morning and scrubbed!
When I started it up after cleaning it was smoother, quieter and just burbled away happily. Went for a wee shopping trip with the family and it felt better than ever (now touching wood!!). Gears, steering and general drivability were just improved.
It had crossed my mind before the trip that the car had only done mileage wise in 7 or 8 years what we were doing in 4 days, but the more grief I gave it, the better it felt. We started with a full tank of momentum, then Esso 'super' then 3 or 4 top ups of Highland 'no name' petrol, the plan being the good stuff would help the plain vanilla as time went on. I had considered some injector cleaner but decided better fuel was the way to go.
So, it will be interesting to see how it all progresses from here.
