A couple of months ago I finally got around to having my Laserline alarm taken out. I've left the original Porsche immobiliser in place. The guy said it had been a little involved and scratched his head suspiciously...

To be honest I heard a strange noise when I picked the car up but ignored it and haven't used it much (though the battery is trickle charged).

Now when I start the car (not every time) there is a crazy squealing sound like a stuck pig. I think it's coming from the rear of the car.

I have some thoughts:

1. In trying to start the car (it was always a headache once the alarm was triggered) the guys that removed the Laserline have damaged the starter motor.
2. Somehow the (re)wiring hasn't been done correctly.
3. The starter motor has failed spontaneously.
4. It's not the starter motor but the fuel pump.
5. There is indeed a small boar wedged next to the clutch.

But then again what do I know?

Any thoughts?

The starter is on the clutch bellhousing at the front/centre of the car not the back.

If its from the rear of the car perhaps it is the fuel pump giving up the ghost.

Try listening under the car by the rear drivers side with someone else starting the car. Is the noise is right near there is must be the fuel pump.

I've had to replace both the starter and the fuel pump in my two and a half years of ownership. I think 30 years work is good going.

If it is the starter get it reconditioned at a local auto electricians. I got mine done for £75 which was cheaper than £225 for a new one and it came back looking like new and works faultlessly. When they took it apart it literally fell apart. They were surprised it had kept working that long.

You can get a oem bosch fuel pump from Eurocarparts for much cheaper than the OPC.

oh and I changed the in tank filter and fuel filter at the same time as changing the fuel pump. Makes sense. The in tank fuel filter can be bought from porscheshop but when you factor in postage its cheaper to pick one up from an OPC.

Three types of suitable fuel filter from Eurocarparts for cheaper than OPC.

I think you can also eliminate the small boar wedged next to the clutch as that is also towards the front of the car. If the noise is from the rear my money is on the fuel pump.

one of mine has a pig jammed against the fuel pump.

It may fail one day but it's been ok for a few months now,
Doesn't always make a noise but when it does it's more noticeable at start up
