Post subject:  Smoking from exhaust manifold

When the engine is running it starts smoking from exhaust manifold.

I knew it could not be the usual cam housing seals as I have only just replaced all of them front rear and bottom. Checking for leakage from the cam housing down and all is totally clear. Having said that I did the main crank front seal at the same time and that is still weeping a little oil.

Climbing underneath I can see the lower balance shaft housing is leaking oil from its rear. Sounds like the exhaust needs to come off and then I can remove the balance shaft housing cover. Need to check that, looks like I can, not sure. It does not look possible to remove with exhaust in situ.

While I am there I am going to service the oil cooler, may as well as I am right there.

The catalogue of jobs grows...........

Has any body here done the lower balance shaft housing and has a few tips?

Manifolds basically off. Next to order a couple of rear balance seals 99970161440 and an oil cooler seal/gasket set.
I think I had better get the oil pressure relief valve alignment tool as well, main reason is that my OPRV is the older type which is aligned a lot easier with the tool. Anywhere in the UK sell them at a reasonable price?????? I will get researching.

Cheers
