I was wondering if I could borrow a 9201 tool off someone to save me buying one just for one job.

I think if you join the club they lend them out.

I have never used the tool for setting the belt tensions on 944 and 968, cam belt I set to 90deg twist, balance shaft belts to 180deg.
Am useing the 944 with a belts and tensioners that I fitted in 2006, IMO important to adjust all the belt tension every six months or 6000 miles they do stretch.
Does any one else do the above or is it not recommended.

I'd think about changing those belts at 9 years old. A guy called Van has posted some good guides on youtube, I used his clip to tension the balancer belt. The cambelt I tensioned using the waterpump twist method.

I have a later car with a spring tensioner and I wasn't going to change the belt when doing the head gasket, just want to check the tension is correct.
I may buy the kricket tool for peace of mind.

I generally used the Kricket. What you will need is a flywheel lock. Some get away without but I am not sure how. I'd certainly change the belts & also check all the idlers & tensioners.

Thank you.

The belts have recently been done. I wasn't going to change them, just inspect them. I don't need to take the balance belt off, just losing the timing belt to get the camshaft off. Reinstalling is where I'll need the tool.
If they look bad i'll order new belts and do them.

I'll try my luck with the kricket. Was hoping to get the proper 9201 tool but I can't find them anywhere. I have been offered an arnnworx tool for £150 but thought I'd ask here first.
