Post subject:  944 turbo clutch replacement

hi all,

it looks like my factory clutch is starting to slip, car is on 95000 miles.

so it is looking like time for a new clutch.

can anyone give some sort of pricing for the labour to fit a clutch ?
mines is a 1989 250bhp model.

when the clutch is out is there anything else that should get done at the same time while in there ?
parts to replace ?

the car is running over 320bhp, will a standard replacement clutch be fine or an uprated one ?

any info will be appreciated.

cheers roy

It's a big job - even longer on the turbo I think because of the exhaust. Check out the write up on Clark's garage.

I guess most of the "while you're in there" jobs are a matter of inspection and replacement if needed. Bushes, gaskets, fuel and brake lines, gearbox mount, driveshafts, torque tube bearings, gearbox shift mechanism, clutch master/slave, rear main seal...there's a long list :) Some of those will be relatively easy to address on other occasions.

Iirc correctly the Sachs kit is 400-500 and the labour is for 12 hours or so. At £50 an hour that's another 600! Not a cheap job but as you have found a six figure mileage is frequent before they go.
