Has anyone had experience of , or used one of the aftermarket HID ( Bixenon ) conversion kits? Are they all they're cracked up to be , ie can you notice the difference , and are the kits reliable? Just started seeing them on Fleabay for £90 , and whilst I appreciate they may not be totally road legal ( ie they don't have a self leveling kit with them ) , just wondered whether they are better than decent halogens ( ie Osram silver star etc) |

You don't want bi-xenon as they take a while to warm up and the on/off cycle doesn't do them any good, so either you wand single xenon for dip, or you can get some that move the bulb to a different location in the lens to change the throw of light to give a hi beam as well as dip. To be honest though, much as they are awesome when fitted OE I don't know that I would fit them to a 944, and I'm not bigger a fan of retrofitted ones heading toward me than most people. Have you tried replacing the wiring to the light units, ideally using thicker gauge and a relay near the lamps? What about new lamp units? Lastly if you do replace the wiring you can "accidentally" buy 100w bulbs. There used to be an upgrade kit available from a Rennlister called Iceshark (who sadly passed away). It contained relays, bigger wiring, 100w bulbs and new Bosch lamp units. I'm told it was very good and that the 100w bulbs are unnecessary. |

I've heard that some MOT testers won't pass HID conversions because the beam pattern is wrong. I certainly wouldn't want mains using HID lamps they take ages to strike, no use for headlight flashing. |
