I fitted the in car shifter a few weeks ago and that certainly felt better than the old one,
although on close inspection, the old one looked like it had been replaced not that many
miles ago.

It took a lot more than just removing the rear wheel to remove the old linkage however.

I had remove the rear box, bend the heat shield ( no way were those bolts coming oot!),
and the fun really started :?

With the rubber boot out the way the three bolts holding on the linkage all came off
fairly easily, what would not budge was the main part of the linkage on the actual
shaft going into the nearside of the box. It took 2 hours and and speedo sender
unit (anyone got a spare to sell?). I had to resort to a crowbar before it finally
came off. There was lots of movement/wear in the bushings.

The new short shift all went on without any trouble after I'd cleaned everything up
and loctited the bolts back on. The shift feels really nice and nuggety and still has
a reasonable amount of throw and not too heavy.

Of course I've no idea how fast I was travelling at....

I fitted my short shift kit last week. I removed the old one from the shaft using one of these....

Took a matter of minutes if that to pop it off the shaft 8)

Didn't need to remove the rear box or bend the heat shield and over the previous week or two prior to swapping it I gave the bolts plenty of releasing spray. Worth it in the end.

My stubby arms couldn't reach!! I was also using a puller which wasn't the best fit for the job,
but heh-ho, got there in the end!

Kenny - My end result, copperslip shaft, Loctite threads, all but rubber seal in proper place...

The shifting on mine is excellent - great product from Kyle Only944 and worth the fitting, although, as in your case, the removal of the old item can be a bit tricky...glad yours finally went well...

Looking good Dave and completely agree about the shift quality although I didn't very far due to no speedo.

The shaft on your gearbox is a much lighter colour than mine (was), I don't think anyone had been in there
in a long time. Speedo pulse sensor is on its way and I ordered a clutch inspection port cover bung after
what happened to the other chap recently.

Since I had remove so much to get at it, everything that was hidden above the rear box and shield were
Dinotroled thoroughly after a good cleaning up so that was another job off the list!
