I have a 1986 944 Lux Auto oval dash. I've got trouble with the heater. I can't adjust the temperature, it's constantly hot!! I also have almost no control on with the blower. It's either off, or one, but only at point 4, i.e only works when switched to the highest setting. Any thoughts to both problems? I've tried to do a bit of reading and there's suggestions a cable may be a fault. Any help would be appreciated. |

Fan speed is due to a defective resistor. They can be cleaned and don't usually need replacing Always on heat could be a small plastic clip or a defective heater valve or vacuum supply to the valve. It can be other things too but these are the most likely. Neither is expensive. |

Take the glove box out and you will see the heater linkage. There are small plastic clips that break. They cost next to nothing from Porsche. The default setting for the heaters when the linkages are broken is full heat! It's an easy fix. |

See procedure HVAC-01 on http://www.clarks-garage.com There are some metal rods that are held in place by the white plastic clips, with metal covers. They're about the half the size of your fingernail. When the clips break, the rods come loose and the heater defaults to hot. Towards the bottom of Clark's guide, it shows you a picture of the clip and cover, complete with part numbers. Cost peanuts from OPC. Cheers, Bryan |

The fan resistor is under the bonnet and to the left of the fusebox. It's about 6 inches long and consists of 4 coils on a beige ceramic base. Easy to unplug and replace. |

Great stuff. Found the resistors just lifted the rubber end of the fairing and lifted fairing to reveal the resistor block. Going to soak in vinergar over night as have read this normally works. Looked online £160 for replacement, £1 for bottle of vinergar, think I'll try that first. Also removed glove box to find snapped clip holding the bearing rod linked to cabin temperature. Awaiting new clip for quick and hopeful good fix. |

An update re the resistor pack..... Bought a 40p bottle of vinegar and soaked the resistor pack for 48 hours. Came out the vinegar gleaming and looking brand new. The debris in the vinegar dish was plentyful.... Installed the pack back in the car, and BINGO, works perfectly. Great little tip and great fix. Also installed a new clip that holds the rod that opens and closes the heat vent. Now got adjustable temperature once again. Top day! |
