Hi

This is a topic that comes up quite regularly. The thread link below is as good a starting point as any to do some reading up:

I knew this would be a can of worms!

IMO 10W60 is overkill for most 944s out there but it does work on a Turbo S2 especially if driven on track ; they really do run quite hot!

With that in mind I would use a good 10W40 :).

10 valve ? For oil 10w50 with a decent amount of ZDDP, something like Millers.

If you change oil lots that halfords track day 5W50 is on special at £20 for 5L and it's got 1100ppm ZDDP

Never use 0W-! Halfords only state it because Mobil do so you cant blame them, but it is dire advice and Mobil should be ashamed.

The Mobil semi will be perfectly adequate. My advice is not to go below a 10W- on this (2.7l&3.0l) engine, as it seldom suits them and oil consumption will rocket. I cant explain why with any real conviction, as my older series one 2.5l doesn't use a drop of 5W- Silkolene, but this is far less common on later engines.

I change the oil in the rally every 2-3k or so. For the last 3 changes I've used Petronas 10w/40 fully synth. Quite happy with it and will keep using it.
