Guys,

I have an annoying rattle coming from a heat shield under the middle of the car. I've not yet been able to get underneath for a proper look, but if I reach under from around the mid point of the door, I can wiggle it and can tell this is the offending item.

Just wondered if anyone has tackled this before - does the exhaust need to come off and is the shield usually completely knackered or maybe just needs some big washers under the fixing screws?

Mine was missing a nut. If the bolt has sheared off you might be able to just bend it in a bit to stop it vibrating on the tunnel.

Guess I'll have to buy some ramps and have a proper look.

I reached under and bent it slightly and now it vibrates at a 1500rpm rather than 2200 - which is better but still annoying.

Do you have to remove the exhaust to get at the fixings?

I have some ramps you can borrow.

Blackadder,

thanks for the offer, I could do with getting some anyway but I may take you up on the offer in a few weeks time.

No problem Ian, let me know as and when.

I may be taking on a workshop in High Lane soon to move all my kit and a couple of cars into as its easier than working on the drive.... and the guy in the next bay has a 2 post lift :)
