Post subject:  DME Computer Cross Compatability?

Hi all,

Had an auto electrician come out, go through my wiring and trace the problem to my DME computer. I have 944.618.121.05 in my 1988 924S. It's hard to find these for sale however 944.618.121.04 is plentiful. Can I use a similar DME from another 944 2.5 or not? Would you consider the Augtronic ECU for a stock engine on a road car with no intention to modify?

Hi Felix,
My DME gave up the ghost last year.

Jon at JMG sent it away to be fixed, he has used the firm many times and never had any issues.
Worth giving him a call

I think Tom at Augment also repairs DME's.

I bought a 1986 944 DME since it was cheaper/available and I figured it must be close to a 88 924S. Charged the battery and the car started right up!

However, I still have a few problems:

The ECU box was warm to the touch after 15 minutes, should it be? Looks like my old one melted a few bits of solder.

The battery voltage is low and the alternator belt is working hard.

Any ideas?

I recall JM telling me alternator issues could damage the DME.

Somewhere, I used to have a full list of all DME part numbers (Bosch), their AFM numbers and the vehicles that they fitted. Unfortunately I cant put my hand on it or remember which units were shared.

I cant find it but it used to be available on Promax's old red website. hat site still exists but immediately refers you to their new site. A call to Andy may provide the compatibility information that you require.
