I had a full (standard) front alignment done with the last set of fronts but now after 7k miles or so, the front tyres are showing signs of much more wear on the inside shoulder than the rest of the tread face which is flat and even!y worn. I've still got 4-5mm of tread on the outer sipes and main tread, but the inner sipes (about 25mm) go from 4mm to 2mm.. I think the tyres are still legal, but at this rate I'll be showing cords soon.. Any thoughts? Greg |

I am no expert on suspension geometry so might be talking bo****ks, but I lost a front pair of tyres on my S2 pretty quickly with massive inside wear and my chap said I had too much negative camber. It used to corner like it was on rails and when we had put a new set of front tyres on and he had readjusted things to his liking it didn't corner quite as well.... but the tyres have lasted far longer and its still pretty good round the bends, just not remarkably good. Anybody agree with this, or can add a tech explanation? Cheers rob |

It sounds like you need a full geo or a track day to loosen everything up properly. |

Too much negative camber, I have set them up this way as it improves the handling but tyre life suffers. Easy enough to reduce but the tracking will need doing as well. |

I have/had this issue. My car is really low and has negative camber but handles great. I was wearing out front Toyo's in only 2 or 3k miles. Changed to Uniroyal RS3's and after 3k miles can see no discernible wear on the insides and car still handles well. Is a bit of a puzzler as the RS3's seem quite soft also, so not quite sure what is going on as geo has not been touched. Maybe the different tread pattern has an effect, dunno! Stuart |

Probably just different compounds, Toyo's are well known to be soft. Is the RS3 a full silica tyre? |

TBH Toyo T1-Rs barely lasted 6k on the front of my Pug 306 GTi-6! How I wished I spent more on the Michelins! I didn't get the fuss with them TBH. Saything that they are OK on the Clio but they are on the rear. |

Ok, so I ditched the Direzzas yesterday and had a pair of Avons fitted on the front. Now, I'm a tight b@stard and got a pair of 225/45 ZV7's from Ebay (2012) with 6+mm and even wear for £50.00 delivered - I figured that if I was going to sh@g a set of boots trying to get things right I might as well not use new rubber! Anyway, the Direzzas were 205's which I think are listed as appropriate for front fitment to the S2 - they gripped ok, not surprising really given their track bias, but were really twitchy on the road surface, and picked up all the ripples and grooves. The Avons have proven to be a bit of an eye opener though. Directionally they are really stable, far better that the Direzzas, although I'm not sure if that's because they were narrower. In the dry their grip rate is impressive - I was stamping on the pedal quite enthusiastically and couldn't get them to misbehave, just plenty of retardation without any squirrelling or squealing. Not quite so spectacular in the damp though, in fact they make me realise that I need to get my ABS sorted out sharpish. G |
