Just replaced seals, bearing shells and bearing sleeve for upper balance shaft and now want to do the same for the lower.

Any tips here? Exhaust manifold is off (doing head gasket also) but it looks like I need to remove the engine mount and mount to block bracket to get enough clearance to remove the balance shaft housing bolts & housing

Do I need to drop the cross member to take out the mount whilst supporting the engine?

Cheers,

Dave

As far as I remember, the one thing preventing access to the lower balance shaft is the power steering bracket. However, I couldn't get mine off, so I can't speak from success!

Power steering bracket containing the lower balance shaft support sleeve came off no problem. Sleeve has been replaced along with the seal

I now want to remove the balance shaft housing to replace the bearing shells. The problem is that some of the balance shaft housing bolts can't be removed as the engine mount to block bracket prevents removal of some of the bolts as there is not enough clearance to take them out

It looks like the engine mount and engine mount to block bracket need to be removed to give access. In order to do this, the cross member will also need to be dropped.

Or is there an easier way????

Now you're way out of my comfort zone! Hope someone else can help.

Sorted it.

By removing the exhaust manifolds, very carefully supporting the sump with a jack and plywood to spread the load, I was able to take off the engine mount to block bracket and then the mount.

Now there is enough space to unbolt the balance shaft housing.

Plenty of space to do the oil cooler seals too now.
