Did you have any issues fitting the kit? I bought a set with slim ballasts and a separate control box which only uses one of the original bulb connectors as a feed and I cannot get it to work correctly. Any combination of bulb and ballast on either end of the separate control unit works fine but as soon as you hook both sides up one will not work.

The supplier sent me a replacement loom/control unit but I am still having the same issues.

Are you getting anything when you turn the lights on ?
Also is the car running when you turn them on

HID units draw a lot of current when they start up, once running they use less than std lights.
I had a set on an old Fiat and had some issues, ended up using a relay, the live from lights connector just triggered the relay and a more powerful live then fed the controller.

TBH these kits are pretty much fool-proof and of you've got them wired correctly they'll work...

I've done a couple of conversions - admittedly on bikes but the principles are the same... Are you using H4 Bi-xenons?? You'll need to wire these up differently as the main beam supply triggers the relay that 'flips' the capsule. If not, you've only got one beam position so you'll never get it to give the equivalent of a high-beam.

I can only reiterate Jason's post as well in that you really must use a relay to give it the initial current draw it needs to start the HID.

I'm wondering if there might be a problem with the kit as when I take the earth from the second light and repeatedly touch it to an earth point the light will flicker but not stay lit (even if I use a known good earth point)

I had not tried them with the engine running but at rest I have good voltage for the lights at a little over 11.3v

Check the wiring, if the capsule is igniting ok, then you've enough current going to the ballast to keep it lit. The current needed to energise the dip/main solenoid is very small indeed and shouldn't affect the principal current flow.

If you use a relay then the supply current in the wiring loom almost becomes irrelevant as all it's doing is switching a full voltage/current supply from the battery ...

Had a little bit more of a play but no real joy. Running the car made no difference so I started checking for and found a possible break in the head light wires. As the kit is designed to use just one headlight connector I swapped it to the other side which again made no real difference. As I originally thought there was a problem with the supplied external control unit supplied with the hid's I had asked the supplier to send me another.

So having two control units I used them to fire each unit separately which works but when I switched to high beam the hid with the dodgy wiring would not work and both full beams in the bumper switched but this is probably because I was using the high beam feed from the original connectors as a temporary positive feed for the control units.

I think I need to fix the loom and find suitable positive switched supply before trying again.

only thing I had to do for the HIDS to work properly on my 968, was to update the fuses in the fuse board from 7amp, to 10 amp. other than that, a straightforward job... got mine from here... www. hids4u. co.uk. They had a 'specific' kit for the car.

All my fuses are fine but can I ask is your kit the conventional type that uses a the standard size ballast or is it a slim kit with a separate control unit ?

Very nice. Which kit did you go for? what temperature bulbs? Do you have any photos showing how you mounted the ballasts? Is the improvement in lighting worth the cost? Thanks.

I had a smallish ballast unit with each lamp, there was enough cable to mount the ballast units either side of the 968 light pods, against the body frame using zip ties and the supplied sticky pads. The only negative is that the lamp socket is part of the rear cover for the light assembly on the 968, so that has to stay off, and the hid lamp itself has a deeper rear. But got all the cabling secure, and dressed, so that the lights raise and lower without any clearance issues. I bought the 'deluxe' set, with the brighter lamp set. can't remember the lux level, will dig out the box, and check.

Just thought I would ask at this point, are these aftermarket HID kits actually legal now? When they started to be introduced there were certain VOSA MOT stipulations regarding the vehicle. Also, the old optics are not designed for the different light source, so the beam they project is not necessarily within legal requirements too. Are the parts 'E' marked or 'DOT' compliant? Have the requirements changed now?

I have had a look around the 'interweb' and got conflicting information (now there's a thing!)..anyone know the actual situation MOT wise? Ta..

EBIDX%3AIT As you can see they advertise various E markings but whether they are now legal or not I don't know, however come mot time I'm going to ask what their view will be if I leave them in place for the test.

I'm going to have another go at getting this to work this afternoon along with repairing one headlight loom, I have fitted a few hid kits over the past ten years but this is the only one I have had problems with.

Well after fixing the headlight wiring and trying different 12v take off points I finally managed to prove the kit works. I just need to wait for a Fuse tap to arrive and I will take my 12v supply from the fuse box. Once I have it and its all re installed I will post up some pictures.

I had a look on hids4u.co.uk and their kit (like most other uk supplied others) appeared to be re branded Chinese stuff (not that i'm knocking them) you can see the components are physically the same.

I specifically told my MOT man at my last test that I'd fitted HIDS, and he said it didn't make any difference to him, as long as they were adjusted within the height requirement. ( the car past the test )
