Post subject:  Hatch glass parted with frame!

I couldn't shut my hatch this afternoon, which I thought was strange that the pins didn't locate suddenly, until I noticed that the glass had completely broken it's bond with the frame at the hinge!

I suspect that this has been exacerbated by the new gas struts that I fitted a couple of years ago.

Since this hatch has a few other issues (demister wire detached from glass, split in rubber spoiler), should I replace the whole hatch?

My options could be:
- pay someone who is willing to re-bond the glass to the frame
- buy a really good replacement hatch

Any suggestions and / or offers?

Buy a second hand one and have that stripped and rebonded, or do it yourself there are a few posts out on the web with how to's

You can buy a bonding kit from car builder solutions that comes with glass etch and frame etch.

I've got a hatch that needs bonding and couldn't find any professionals locally that would do the work.

I replaced the whole thing but old one is sitting in garage.

Worth considering, thanks. I'll see what Terry's is like first.

Terry has offered me what sounds like a good one, so I'm arranging to "try before buy".

However, this poses the question: can one fit a 944 hatch inside a 944? Has anyone ever tried this?

A 924 hatch will go into a 924 without problem

I fitted the spare hatch in my 944.

Excellent. It has also been pointed out to me that if my old hatch is beyond repair, just bring a big sheet and a hammer. That will make it smaller!

Terry was an immense help last night. Despite me taking completely the wrong route and arriving an hour late, the weather gods were with us, and we fitted the hatch in under an hour, before we ran out of daylight. Terry knew exactly how to fit it and check alignment.

As a bonus, I received a thrill ride in his tuning-in-progress 951, which has amazingly tight suspension and is a real torque beast. Hopefully you can find the full potential of this setup soon Terry!
