While I've been digging around my '84 944 working out what's where, what works and what doesn't (see other thread on the no start problem), I've come across a number of other questions ...
1) What is the third switch from the left on the console ? It has an image of a foglight, but the front and rear fogs seem to work fine from the switch above the radio (though its warning lamp doesn't !)
2) How do I know if I have an electric aerial - or more to the point, how should it go up ? I have a little two-pronged key which fits into the top of the aerial but doesn't seem to do anything (wish I'd never put the aerial down, but it was bent - maybe that's why it won't go up again). The car does have a horrible Halfords-type radio which is permanently live unless its front panel is removed, so I guess it's been wired up badly, and maybe doesn't drive the aerial motor anyway ?
3) Fuse number 9 (blower, tailgate) - I can hear the tailgate mechanism working whether or not the fuse is in place. Any idea what might be going on here ?
4) There are three relays dangling loose under the left-hand dash (i.e. passenger side, the car being RHD). One is sunroof, another is for the windows, but what about the third, which is different to the other two and labelled R 601 408 ? Does the sunroof perhaps require two relays ? And where and how should these relays be fixed, surely they shouldn't just be dangling ?

Any thoughts on any of these questions - anyone ?

Hi there, the button on the centre console you mention is headlight washers - they'll only work if the headlights are up (at least on mine that's the case). As for the ariel, if you look on the inside of the wing is there a motor? That's how I got told mine was electric but it's never worked and never fussed me. And re the fuses I don't have the foggiest I'm afraid!
