Hi

In a seemingly endless search for a reason for rough idle/misfire on my 1987 2.5 na I decided to strip the fuel rail off to send the injectors for a clean and refurb at injectortune. They look like they need it ! one cap missing and another cracked. Hate to think where the missing one ended up

anyway while I was there I decided to strip the intake manifold off to check the hoses underneath. They all seem ok, but probably will replace them while its all off. I've found a small coating of dried coolant residue over pretty much all of the top of the cylinder head, which looks like its coming from the front top hose. I'm going to change the gasket on this also. Strange as there is nothing visible when the engine is running. The old intake manifold gaskets looked like they had failed on a couple of cylinders and one wasn't lined up properly by about a 1/2 inch, obstructing a bit of airflow maybe ? these will be renewed also

I've found a small oil leak from the oil filler O rings so they are getting replaced, also a clean up of the earth point

apologies for rambling on a bit but any other jobs I should do while this is all off ?

Cheers

Brian

check and re-check all the vacuum lines and hoses - you'll be surprised at what you can miss and how much difference it makes to the idle. Give the idle control valve a good soaking clean also and clean the contact points. Made a difference for me.

A leaking inlet gasket was the cause of my rough idle.
