Hi All, The rubber centre on my clutch has gone, and although I have receipts for the timing belts from 2009 (15,000 ago) I have no idea if they were fitted so I've decided that to do the clutch I will drop the engine. There are a number of "while I'm doing it" jobs that I'll likely carry out as there car will be out of action for a couple of weeks regardless due to the fact I could probably only spend 3-4 hours a week on it. These so far comprise (with parts costs): Timing and balance belts and rollers -£140 ish New water pump - Ebay new in box one is £150 Balljoints and bushes (mine is a 1983, so believe these can be replaced individually) - £50 ish Steering rack removal and regrease - £10 for grease. Gearbox oil - £25 Clutch - £250-450 depending on which option I choose. Steering rack bushes Rollbar bushes Can anyone think of anything else I might as well do as I'm there!? Don't want to go too crazy, but equally wouldn't mind getting the greasy engine bits down whilst there is easy access.. Will |

Clean the grounds on the clutch bellhousing as its impossible to get to when on the car and are a root cause of many electrical gremlins. |

Not sure cam & balance belt & all tensioners/rollers are £140. I think I paid £300 plus a few years ago. |

Do all the belts, 6 years is a long time and the rubber degrades. Anyway, much easier to do with the engine out. If you have the engine out and belts off, why not remove the camcover and get it painted/powder coated New water rail and aluminium heat shield too, only cosmetic but looks good Before Attachment: 20140210_134932 (Small).jpg with new water rail and heat sheild Attachment: 20140904_174010 (Small).jpg

If your doing the clutch a new rear main crank seal is a must Balance shaft rear seals, oil air separator O rings, just about any other oil seal or o ring you can find, just remember they are all standard sizes and can be purchased from your local bearing shop for pennies instead of OPC pounds I bought every o ring and oil seal for the front end of my 968 plus lots of others, throttle body AOS crank balance shafts. The bill was £19.00 plus vat Have a good look at your sump gasket too as these are a real ass with the lump in the hole |

Is there a list anywhere of what is needed? regards Mark |

Oil pan gasket and motor mounts perhaps |

Thanks Guys, Jason, like the look of that! The engine mounts were replaced about a month ago, but see your point about the oil pan gasket, I might as well do that. Couple more questions - what sort of time shall I be expecting it to take to get the engine out... top or bottom? Also, pretty convinced that my thermostat is stuck open. It's taking 18 miles to warm up (but doesn't fully warm up unless I sit in traffic!), I'm getting about 19mpg to give me a tank range of 235.... Hopefully will do this and replace the radiator fan this weekend. Can't help but think I've bought a bad one, but will plough on! Will |

A lot of the sizes are listed in PET let me know your engine type number and I will dig up as many as I can for you And list them out on here You also have a choice of Viton (expensive) nitrile normal material for seals |

here is some idea of just the O rings and Seals at OPC prices based on a 86-87 944 ![]() ![]() you can see most of the sizes are listed, the real odd metric sizes are actually imperial seals |

I've realised that I've never put any pictures of the car up.. To be fair, it's a bit of a rotter - however for some reason I loved it when I saw it - I like the colour, in that it isn't faded and dated. However.... the interior is another matter. This is something I need to sort out one day, but for now there are more important bits to sort out and I don't want to sink £400 into equally old non-torn seats. Steering wheel needs replacing, prototipo or MX5 when I get round to it. Not a fan of the wheels at all as I really do love the cookie cutters that it would have come out of the factory with (is that weird!?), if anyone has an unused pair let me know what you'd want for them? Are the wheels on there worth any money? Apart from that, the paint is so so with scratches to the top coat all over the bonnet. Relatively rust free (at least the cills seem to be), however there are bubbles around the boot shut lines. Will |

Oh... and I'm most definitely going to cut the exhaust tip off and put something let chavvy on it... Will |

Exhaust looks pretty normal Cookie cutters will cost less than you will get for yours. what size are the wheels ? also the width and offset (markings on wheel next to valve) |

The car looks a nice colour and easy to look reasonably clean (mines black). The exhaust tip looks original fit to me I would keep it. I also like the cookie cutters so that would be a nice look. For the steering wheel I would go back to a stock item. Regards Mark |

The exhaust tip isn't original, here's a better photo! It's a "Custom Chrome Racing" exhaust... hate it. On another note, I've seen a very nice black 944 in Portsmouth with cookie cutter wheels and a nice interior. Hate to say it, but tempted! |
