Hi there,

I'm preparing a 1990 944 Turbo for a sprint season and wonder if there are any members that also sprint a Turbo, would like to pick your brains on adding a second and backup throttle spring?

Very many thanks

Fellow sprinter/hillclimber here!

The 'second spring' is just a myth on FI cars: I understand the rule is there for carbed cars that have multiple throttle plates but only a single spring, so they therefore require a second spring.

I'm pretty sure a 951 has two springs any way from memory (mines over at my lock up at present so I can't easily check...).

I did a full season racing in my 106 Rallye last year and not once did a scrut ask about a secondary throttle return spring, but like you before the season I was worried about this so had it clarified.

Like many things in the blue book there's a gulf of space for interpretation!

Steel nuts required too.

I have never even noticed a scrute look at the wheel fixings, let alone require steel replacements.

Thanks guys, yes I know about the steel nuts, and you're the 944 T has two springs on the throttle.

cheers

im another fellow sprint/hillclimber although a novice only done 4 events in 2014 and 1 so far in 2015.
anyway ive a question....
anybody fitted a lightweight battery odyssey/varley or lithium ion etc if so which one works....
can they crank over a 944 turbo
i weighed my battery at 20kg. Surely good weight saving to be had

Its a 220bhp early offset non abs turbo with lindsey/promax stage 2 kit dpwaste gate and manual boost controller 3bar fuel reg. Not much else really in engine department. Adjustable koni.s with stiffer front springs and gaz adjustable in rear. 16 inch teledials with slightly lower profile kumho v700 track tyres.
performace friction pads, 968 clubsport brake air catchers at discs.
Removed heavy leather seats for kevlar recaros, removed awful sound deading and fitted light weight carpet, half cage

I ve got a fibre glass bonnet to go on in the next couple of months and thinking of a few more cheapish mods to get weight down. Im in roadgoing class so only certain things allowed no lexan side windows still unsure if rear hatch can swapped though.

interested to hear what other people have done......

PCGB allow it, but no one else will, I don't think, despite is being the vehicle's 'boot' which you would expect to be able to replace with GRP. A Strosek style rear hatch would probably be within the rules though.
