Hi All, I just got an MOT advisory, saying that I have some play in my offside front control arm ball joint. From what I understand, they are not rebuildable and Porsche want a huge amount of money for a new control arm. Are there any alternative courses of action? I don't want to shell out money for used arms which will probably go the same way in a couple of years. |

http://www.hartech.org/porsche_996_997_ ... _sale.html The above is probably your best bet, you can buy rebuild kits for your existing arms but some of the results from people going down this route have not been very successful . |

I had no success rebuilding mine, I think the housing can go out of round which kills the replacement. I bought Hartech ones, also come with new bushes which are harder. |

Excellent tip - these guys will be getting my money. Those are exchange prices, so it will have to wait until the winter - I am having far too much fun driving it right now! |

I am a toolmaker by trade and bored out the offending weak design and after buying 924 ball joints turned off the lugs to create a cassette joint, which was a press fit in the arm and used a large internal circlip to secure it all and it works a treat. Total cost to me £25. Bit better than ££££££££. |

If it were me I would throw some Hartech arms on  .My S2 is still on the Hartech items I fitted and the 951 had Hartech items fitted ages ago and is still fine to this day 30k later. BUT, before doing any of this checking the wheel bearing first. On my S2 one side having 'play' was down to it being misdiagnosed as a wheel bearing. |

If yours is early offset fit steel wishbones...cheap but German quality, ball joints are easily replaceable. |
