Post subject:  Both radiator fans running on

Hi all

Parked up at work today and when I finished my shift the car was absolutely dead, green flag duly arrived and as suspected both fans continually running.

Is it a case of disconnecting the thermostatic radiator switch and if fans stop its the switch and if they continue to run we are looking at the relay?

I changed the radiator switch about 18 months ago with a part from 9apart.

Any advice would be great.

Regards

Mark

Hi Mark

I had exactly the same problem while in France last year - I ended up swapping the fan relay (although I don't think that was the problem) and also the thermo switch on the radiator.

In the short term I ended up unplugging the relay in the fuse box every time we stopped, a right PITA but necessary. In the pic below it's the double sized aluminium cased relay on the RHS ...

Try the rad switch first - it's the cheaper of the two options, OPC prices for the relay require a re-mortgage of the house athough I was lucky enough to snag an unused NOS one for £35.00 ...

that relay is £200.00.

its normally the fan switch that does it.

is your two pole or three like this

if you just take the switch to a car spares shop don't tell them its for a Porsche, the same switch is used in Alfa's and others

they might be able to just match it up and it will be a lots cheaper

See what I mean about the relay??

Try ebay for the switch, that's where I got mine - around £15.00 I think, otherwise JMG Porsche have them on their website for a couple of quid more...

Pull the plug to the temp switch if the fans stop then it's the switch. If you pull relay and it stops it's the fans. What type relay you need? Ac or non
