Post subject:  Removing wires from 944 fuse box

Hello Tipec!

I recently got myself a 944S which I'm loving but it has some serious issues! A lot of them stem from the electrics which are a complete mess. Have already torn out (literally) one of the two immobilisers but I need to really attack the fuse box as it's all over the shop.

When I flash the high beams all the electrics switch off, the radio doesn't get voltage when the lights are off... the fuel pump is wired into the wrong side of the DME relay, when the radiator fan turns on all the electrics flick off for a split second, and more.

Does anyone know of a tool or tool set that I can use to easily remove wires from the underside of the fusebox? A terminal release tool seems to be the name of it but many garages I've spoken to have never even heard of such a thing!

Would something like this work?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Laser-3932-Te ... 3641.l6393

Or a kit like this?

Thanks for your time.

Matthew

I really don't know if the Audi/VW tool will do the job but there is a very good chance. I've never done this with car electrics, but as I am always building/rebuilding computers I have a similar tool for Molex connectors.

I would think the GM one is less likely to be useful on a Porsche unless some of those tools are generic. If you get either then let us all know please

Cheers

Rob

Thanks Rob!

Also found this on a German site, which seems more of a bona fide Porsche set:

http://www.was-services.com/product_inf ... cts_id=302

But can't find a price anywhere, emailed them to see what it might cost. Looks pricey though!

In the meantime I thought I'd risk it for £10 and got the Laser VAG tool from eBay so will let you know if it's the holy grail of odd tools.

Hi Rob,

I ended getting the Laser Terminal Release tool from the eBay link in my first post. Seems well made, only £10 and removes wires from the fuse box which is all I need to to do.

I got a nice email from WAS GmbH in regards to their Mibo Toolkit for Porsche but unfortunately their kit costs EUR 425.00 net exw. + EUR 29.00 DHL freight.

When I expressed that this was about a third of the entire value of my car they suggested a cheaper version: http://www.was-services.com/product_inf ... cts_id=682 which is EUR 169.

But that's still out of my price range!

Hope that info helps anyone looking to remove wires from plugs etc. in their car.
