A good result after a car park incident resulting in a dent to front wing and a split to the front bumper.

The insurers repair quote came in at £3506 inc Vat which would have resulted in the car being written off. They offered to settle for the quote amount less the Vat (£2800), allowing me to find an alternative garage. I subsequently spent £1400 having the dent and bumper repaired, the wing bottoms cut out out and replaced, a rust repair around the windscreen, a steering overhaul, rust repair to the bottoms of the rear arches and a full mechanical polish!

For those of you in Northants and in need of a body shop, I can thoroughly recommend Bill Burt in Litchborough, if anyone needs his number let me know.

Nice, so does that mean your car is now registered as a a CAT C or did you just pay to have the work done?

Car looks fantastic btw.

Is your car Alpine white and did the bodyshop get a good colour match ?

So did they give you £2800 and you kept the car?

I'm still waiting for mine to come back from the body shop, well I had it back but sent it back to them :-(

Good result! Who are your insurers? Exactly what we need in terms of a real world approach to claims...

Good stuff - always worth trying to work something out with the insurer if possible.

A few years back my partner took a bump in her Celica - the insurance approved bodyshop quoted around £3500 to repair, which was enough to write the car off. My other half didn't want to have the car written off so got some quotes from local bodyshops at closer to £2000, and the insurers agreed to pay out £2000 in lieu of repair.

I then straightened the rear panel myself, bought a new tailgate and paid someone a few hundred quid to paint that and blend in some other minor (non related) repairs on the rear quarters. Everyone was happy :)

In answer to the various questions:

I can never remember whether it is Alpine or Grand Prix White! He has however managed a pretty good colour match, the only area that can really be spotted is where he has touched in some stone chipping just in front of the rear arches. For some reason the paint around the sills has discoloured slightly over the years.

The car is not Cat C. I dealt directly with Enterprise Van Hire's insurers who were incredibly helpful. They did offer to write it off and pay me £4k and I still got to keep the car! That was tempting but I didn't want a C rating which would greatly affect the future value.

Overall a good result as I still have a grand in my back pocket!

Cracking result Marcus. I'm sure there are some insurers that wouldn't have been so amenable...
