Hi all,

I'm debating whether to replace my 60mm sidewall tyres with 50mm sidewall tyres.

The factory fitment is 215/60 R15. This has a rubbish tyre choice.

I can get Toyo Proxes in 225/50 R15 which I know they run in the USA on 8v n/a cars in the 944 SPEC racing series.

Any advice? Is this an unwise move?

I suppose there may be a chance the wheels my look a bit small for the car. Will I definitely need to lower the car to avoid looking stupid?

I am aware the speedo will be out a bit and the top speed will be less.

the 60 or 50 is not the sidewall height in mm, it is the aspect ratio. A 50 series tyre sidewall height is 50% of the nominal width, a 60 series 60% etc. A 225 50 R15 would have a 33mm smaller diameter than a 215 60 R15.

Far better to get a set of 16" rims
A better choice of Tyres

I like my fuchs to much to change them for 16's in something else. 16inch original forged fuchs are far too rich for me.

You can get the Barum Bravuris 2 in 215 from my tyres, have them on one of my cars. £60 a corner
made by continental, do a search on here to see what others say about them

If it is a track I would say yes. If it's used everyday I would say no :).

I have had cars where other friends have bought lower profile tyres (due to price). Maybe I noticed it becase they had done it but the cars definitely seemed busier on roads near me (probably because the wheels were in effect slightly smaller and found the potholes more often) as well as the motorway. Certainly in fuel savings it seemed worth it but maybe their cars were not in tune (I used to see 33MPG on a regular basis from my GTi-6 whereas most would struggle to get beyond 30.

My advice would be: if you don't know what the 60/50 refers to, then don't tinker.
