Started stripping down to do pump, belts, seals and so on.

Found this is the pump stub. Not good.

No mayo in filler, drained coolant looks perfect as does oil. Will be changing oil cooler seals along with belts, etc but was going to leave head gasket until later in the year. Not so sure now.

Any advice here?

Plenty of Radweld will also look similar.

I changed the thermostat about 18 months ago but there wasn't any of this then. Haven't put any radweld myself but could have been done by the previous owner I guess. Does it look like oil & water mixing to you guys?

The only other thing that comes to mind is differing anti-freezes reacting with one another???

That would do it what a pain job that is

Looking at it again today, the gasket had also failed. It is rock hard and has disintegrated in places. The oil cooler mating surface on the block side is pitted, so will need some sealant when it goes back. There were no obvious signs the gasket had started to fail until I started stripping everything. Caught it just in time - glad I did it now.

The oil cooler seals are a pain, but nothing in comparison to the lower balance shaft. Replaced the lower balance shaft seals and bearings today and it is without doubt, the worst job I have had to do on the car - by a mile! Its done but it made me wish I had taken the engine out
