Not sure. Thought it may be nearside rear wheel bearings at first. But then I put my head in the centre of the car as im driving the noise seems more central. Not sure if it gets better after a few miles. Also it does at car speed. Even when rolling along with it in neutral aswell.
Cheers

possible your torque tube bearings rumbling.

I have noticed a rumble from my nearside rear.

Drive most 944s with the seat down & the boot carpet out & once it warms up you'll think the gearbox is about to blow up! I think it is a combination of slack in the drive line & the length of the torque tube echoing the noise. Once I got used to it I just turned the radio up!

Have checked your gearbox oil? If not maybe do a gearbox oil change. I used 80w90 recently and my gearbox is still slightly whiney but much better.

I've also noticed that if I leave my hand resting on the gear stick there's enough slack in the mech to cause a whine... :D

Excuse my ingnorance, but wouldn't that be at engine speed rather than car speed?

Had a recent gear oil change. Its less of a whine and more of a hum. Wom, wom, wom with each rotation.

Is that stationery or rolling?

Sounds most likely to be the wheel bearing, I replaced both my rears at the same time to be sure however it was the N/S that seemed to be noisier and definitely had more wear once removed.

Thats what I originally thought. But its just been mot'd, suppose they can still make a noise without any play.

Yeah, mine had been making a noise for at least 3 Mots but never picked up on. I changed them as preventative maintenance due to running 18" wheels too.
