Thoughts:

A 944 looks good in a Gulf style livery!

Those plow things would do wonders on the commute to work

Its the 3rd 944 I remember them using for one of the challenges; I'm sure I've read Jeremy likes them, so expect to see them cropping up every so often, especially when prices are relatively low!

The part that dealt with the ambulances was very dull and could be shortened or left out, as for the abuse to 944 turbo, a 944 went down for the good of the breed.

I thought the blonde standing behind Richard Hammond was very nice.

Not sure why those who dont like it still watch but i thought it was quite funny tonight.
might have all been childish humour but had me giggling

Thought The 944 came out of it well and no dodgey number plates in sight :D

Hopefully helps to raise the profile & value of our cars, but was disappointed it struggled to hold it own against a granada :?

I thought the ambulance article was quite amusing, albeit trivializing a serious issue.

As for the 944 it was a shame the turbo was knackered on it. A healthy one would have thrashed the others on the drag race and shown how good they are.

Given the 944 in question was brown with a burgundy interior with a knackered turbo its days were probably numbered.

Anyone got the number for top gear so I can scavenge for parts off it :P

I'm down there in April or May to drive the Reasonably Priced Car round the Top Gear Track - will see what I can find :)

The turbo was knackered it seems but going from the in dash view it did seem to be boosting fine.

Another thing to remember is that it was a 220 Turbo against a 210BHP Cosworth Scorpio, and that the gearing on 951s was always on the tall side, something which a few members on here have criticised (I believe DarrylH is using an S2 'box in his for this very reason). If I did not slip the rear wheels on mine (which I rarely did) it really did take some time to build up the momemtum as it was lagging that much. Beyond 3.5k it did then blow a few things into the weeds.

I won't put a video up (as it is embarresing) but whilst I was trying to not destroy the clutch on my Porker at Shelsley Walsh my starts were pretty depressing. Of course if I launched at 4k it would have been a different matter :).

It's a shame it went. It looked like quite a nice colour combination (at least to me) and a rare one at that.

To be honest I got bored very quickly with it and watched Guy Martin in India instead.

The TG team are (IMHO) a bunch of overpaid old tossers who get free watches and arse around...

I'm with Chas here, I think the gear ratio is definitely something to consider. I've never been in a standard turbo, I can't comment too much on how long they are but from videos I've watched mine gets up to speed a lot quicker than others around standard power (Mine is not fully standard but is only running 0.8 bar of boost at the minute and an S2 'box).

DarrylH - i hillclimb and sprint my 220 turbo in northern ireland and was wondering about gear ratios as it is very long so you have just given me something to consider with an S2 gearbox swap..........
any particular year ? Would you know gearbox model/part number ? so i know what to keep my eye out for

083F AOS or AOT. AOT has an LSD.

The ratios are broadly similar its the final drive which is more palatable. Im looking for an S2 transaxle for my own car as I want to gear it down for sprinting.

Iv heard s2 makes the car more alive. But I'm not really sure how the lower gearing would help, power band will be around the same rpm but the mph will be lower in relation to road speeds? So it will seem like your on boost earlier. But then your be changing gear earlier as well. If you go past 5k I would expect your be on boost In the new gear.

For me, my spool is still close to stock.

1st 30/40 hard to tell.
2nd 40/70
3rd 50/110
4th 60/130
5th 70/ ?

Could be slightly earlier

I see how s2 box could mean you got more power at speed limit speeds. Like 30, going in to 50 zone would require a down shift to 2nd to get a strong pull
