I think the high prices will be for low miles original cars with full history only. It will take a lot longer for low-history, high-mileage non-original hacks like mine (an S2 with a turbo engine dropped in) to be worth very much more than 3K

Oops - this was a reply to the thread about high prices in the Press - Mods: can it be moved please?

I see high milage 924's at that price. There seems to be a huge variation on values depending on who you talk too.
Dealers tell you its a 3k car when trading in but they then put it on the forecourt at 5k + and say it an appreciating classic. :?

I know I was the OP on this but I only posted as it was interesting information for many.

As the owner of a high mileage, low history, engine replaced LUX with various dents and scrapes I'm not expecting mine to be snapped up by a Chinese investor any time soon.

Saying that it is 'Hong Kong spec' (as indicated on the options sticker) and was originally delivered to a Hong Kong dealership!! It's already had its Chinese adventure.

Mine is a car to be enjoyed by driving it and slowly getting it back to a good condition.

It is nice to be able to describe it as a classic rather than a shed

FWIW my 951 had 180k+ on it and it sold for more than £3k, far more.

When speculators invest they are usually expecting the assets value to increase. Most would probably pick a low mileage garage queen that's had very little done to it for decades over something like Kong's car that has been rebuilt from the ground up, to probably a much better car.
