I just bought a set of 17" 996 Carrera 4 wheels, but when I try to fit them on my 944 S2, the fronts foul the centre bore. If I fit a spacer (I think about 8mm should be enough), they may fit, but then I would have to fit longer studs. After searching thru lots of forum posts I can find lots of people who have fitted 996 wheels on a 944, but none of them seem to mention anything about spacers. I am wondering if I have standard hubs - has anyone else had to fits front spacers to get 996 17" wheels on?

I just tried this. I bought a set of 7mm spacers and tried to fit my 996 wheels, they still foul the centre bore. It is not by much - I can just get a 0.08mm feeler gauge in the gap. After calling around, everyone is telling me they ought to fit. I have tried thoroughly cleaning the hub and wheel faces, and removing the centre caps, but the bore still fouls. I am stumped.

One possibility may be that I don't have stock hubs. The previous owner swapped most of the suspension over from a 1991 turbo Cabriolet, so I wonder if the hubs are different? Has anyone out there seen this before?

Do you mean they catch on the wheel bearing cap? I had that with the Sport Design wheels I used to have, pop the cap off they will fit fine.
