After starting the car, the ignition key does not spring back to the normal run position. I know this is nothing to do with the electrical part of the switch. I have the clarks info on where to drill the lock housing to release the barrel, but any idea what causes the problem? Is it a lack of lubrication or general wear. Is the spring mechanism in the barrel or the housing? Many thanks, Dave. |

My old S used to do this also - but I just put up with it. I never explored the problem, but I was told that the spring mech was in the switch part rather than the barrell. |

Changed the electrical part of the switch twice - firstly for a good used one and then bought a brand new unit too, but problem remains. When you rotate the electrical part of the switch off the car, there is no spring to the movement. Want to change it as my wife had to move the car recently and wondered what the weird noise was (the starter spinning with the engine running....doh!!) |
