afternoon all
finally bought an 86 2.5 944. Very pleased with it. Its done 188K miles but virtually everything except the gearbox has been replaced/refurbished over the last 29 years, and the body work and interior is mint. Its like Triggers Broom - totally original with only 9 heads and 7 handles etc.
I am picking up a good (hopefully) gear box friday morning to replace the very tired original.
However it doesn't have rear seatbelts fitted. Does any one know if the bolt holes and reinforcing plates will have been fitted as standard by Porsche and they are just covered by upholstery. Or is it drilling and welding time ? With the gearbox about to come out it seems like a good opportunity to add the neccesary reinforcement bits if need. Its really cold and snowy at the moment so cant have a look underneath.

I need to do this to mine so I did look into it. The later cars had specific plates welded into the rear luggage area to which the belts were fixed. The rear carpets are different to accommodate this and the belt reels.

I have bought a set of rear belts to put in but have not got round to getting the plates welded in. I rang up www.quickfitsbs.com in north london and they said they have fitted rear belts in a 944 a few times. I think they quoted £150 and it would take an hour. It was over a year ago.

Once my kids get a bit older and use seat bolsters rather than full on car seats I will be looking to do this.

All cars including 924s have provision for fix or inertia two point belts or fixed three point belts.

Three point inertia belts require an extra mounting which a 1986 does not have (MY87>).

The holes are either side of the rear seat recesses with the third being in the C pillar, filled with a large plastic screw/bung.
