A few comments recently on PCGB about how a 944 Turbo will never sell for more than £12,000 even if it is immaculate, low mileage and with a full Service History.......

Well my 944 Turbo has just sold for a lot more than £12,000 to the first viewer of the car who couldn't fault it for appearance, driving style, history or preparation.

Is this a Fantasy...... NO THIS IS REALITY :D

Your photos did present the car well and I bet it was even better in the 'metal' so to speak! Well done on the sale - If only I had reserves of cash to invest in a 'good un' - as yours was definitely on the 'wish list' :D

Good stuff Martin, an appreciating classic it certainly is. I think we will see a lot more 5 figure transactions for good turbo's this year and would not be surprised to see the exceptional ones touch £20k soon. I have certainly made sure my guaranteed value on my insurance reflects this upturn and now consider my car an investment with my simple formula of [if purchase price + money spent = less then saleable value and saleable value is increasing = good investment] :)

Well done with the sale. Now we're well and truly out of the financial crisis/credit crunch etc prices of some classic cars seems to be flying. Old 911's seem to start at about 25k now and by the looks of it even 928 (cross fingers) prices seem to be going up too. A lot of stuff seems to have just doubled in value.

Shhhh! I want a 928, but it'll will have to wait. All this talk of rising prices will mean prices rising!

I agree that prices are taking off as banks cannot give any return and modern cars have a shelf life.
Up until just over a year ago I had a Dolomite Sprint which I sold to an American and it now lives in Ohio.
I have just rebuilt a Sprint engine and was staggered to easily sell for £950 and there was a queue waiting all with offers over £800.
The 944 range is amazingly cheap at the moment but it wont last.
Lets face it its a 240Z only much better :D

I have sold 944Turbos above that price too.

I have a list of collectors to contact if certain cars are found.

This doesn't amaze me, i think 25k is the top end of the market.

What does amaze me is people paying 25k for 911SC. Having driven many of both, i know what id spend the money on.

Congratulations and well done, nice to hear of a really good one going for a realistic price (& not the £8k a lot of people recon a good one is worth :? ).
Pleased I kept mine, I paid more than £12k 8 years ago, will have to get its value checked out with Jon at JMG at next Service/MOT visit.
(it's currently on £15k agreed value)
I don't see it as an investment moneywise, the last 8 years keeping it in top nick, servicing etc & recent bodywork refurbish = £££££ spent. But the joy of ownership and driving it is what it's all about for me :D .

928s have shot up in the last year. Pristine gts (especially the manuals) and even GT are trading for £40k+. There's a really nice GT at Hairpin near me which is apparently 35-40k.
A good gts used to be 12-15 but its a good bit more now.
If you want one better get on with it!

That makes the rest that are left even more valuable!

They trashed Marina's every chance they got but sadly there are still one or two left

We have a 944 Turbo in the workshop at the moment that our customer bought for £16k after a lot of hunting around... And it needs about £10k spending on it.

We have also heard of up to 3 944 turbos selling in the last few months for £25k

On pistonheads at the moment there are...

1 Turbo S at £17995
3 Turbo SE at £16995
1 944 2.7 at £12000

There is a couple of turbos at £9k from autograph which seem to have been for sale for a couple of years complete with guttering attached to the sills and a Turbo S being sold by a dealer in bedford for £9k which is a tempting purchase.

I have a 86 Turbo and an 89 Turbo SE I am thinking of selling at the moment, as well as a 944 2.7 Lux, beats me where to price them.. Gut feeling is to go with the pack and price them both at £17k and £12k for the to be honest as people are buying at that price, but is a 2.7 really worth £12k? Mine might have 72k miles on it instead of the 45k on the one on piston heads, but mine will come with a warranty that covers everything (not a waste of space policy warranty) and will have zero defects.

Or maybe I am just off my rocker..?

I have predicted for years that this would happen, but part of me does feel like it all happened a bit quickly.

Interestingly although 3.2 Carreras and 3.0 SC's are at high prices, they have not moved much in the last few months, so I think that market might be topping out for now and buyers/collectors/investors might be jumping onto the 944 now.

Usual snotters are around for lower prices, but hell, that is still £3k to £4k for a lux and £6k for a turbo... But most of them need a fortune spending on them, as many of you probably have experienced with buying a cheap one.. the one in the workshop looks wonderfull,, but the hidden horrors are everywhere.

I think this is a good sign for you all, dont knock it

I'm beginning to think that the 6K I paid for my 89 Turbo last May is beginning to look like a bit of a bargain ! ( Given that it has no major issues) :)

When you compare the silly prices paid for AVO Fords (I used to own an RS3100 Capri) that are nothing more than a Cortina with frilly bits, it makes a 944 look like a very cheap car indeed, however its got superb handling and performance from good to exciting (depending on model) they are not very rusty as a rule and are very capable of very high mileage, plus they have a badge which comes with honour.
Garage pundits look and say rubbish like "is that the one with the VW engine in?" I usually say "no its got a real Porsche engine, but even if it was a VW engine they are bloody good cars too". I then turn away and find someone more sensible to talk to.

I think we will find the top cars will go high and so too the cheaper 924 which will then cause a general rise.

We tend to suffer from "oh its not a 911 real Porsche"
