Hi - newbie here.
Im sure this question has been asked a zillion times but any help would be good
I have narrowed my search down to a 80K miles 944s, mint full service etc, and a 150K 944s2, again mint massive service history and all belts and chains changed @ 120K miles. Assuming everything else is more or less the same which should I pick?
I have a concern about the s2 future resale value when in @ 5 years its got 170K .
sorry to be unoriginal but help/advice appreciated

I guess it depends on how much of an investment each would represent but high mileages don't seem to adversely affect values as much as low mileages enhance them - if you see what I mean ...

Personally - it would be the S2 all the way but then I am a little biased..

My vote has to go for the s2 as well - plenty of power for day to day use.

Both having lots of history is a good start.

From personal preference I find the S engine to be more willing to rev that the S2 - Although they share the same head, it's a different block I believe.

How much difference in price is there?

I am just in the process from swapping from an S to S2. S2 has better brakes & just looks better to me!

re-price, few hundred quid hence my dilema. Can't decide if 150K miles is too much and could be a bucket of trouble. Or as its a porsche it's just really just well run in with good history.

I would also go for the S2, more grunt and does not need revving so hard (based on past 944's owned).
Even though the belts/rollers were replaced 30,000 miles ago make sure it was within the last 4 years otherwise they really need doing again.

I would also go with the S2 - who knows what value our cars are going to be in 5 years time..? However, at the rate that they are being broken for parts I would imagine they will at least hold their value! I have an 'S', I have had a couple...but, I would go for the S2 just for the looks and the extra power. The 2.5 engine is a little easier to rev - yes, but you have to get it past 4K RPM for it to perform.

As Waylander already mentioned - take them out on the road, it's really all about the driving experience - find out which one 'floats yer boat'! :D

Buy the S - far more desirable.....

It will really depend on a few things really:

Daily or Weekend use
Driving style
Front end looks

Condition
History
Seller

As a daily the S2 will be a lot less tiring, more torque and less gear changes, as a weekend sports car the S is a lot more fun, involving and no slouch when driven how intended, there is not much to compare between the S, S2 and 220T all in standard spec of course, in performance, top speed or the various levels of trim.

Driving style, the S is really only suited to a spirited lets go for an enthusiastic spin where as the S2 will accomplish this as well as the lazy relaxing poodle or start stop town driving.

Front end looks, speaks for itself which do you prefer got to be a major factor in any car purchase.

Condition, these days probably the the most important aspect, these cars are falling into the hands of owners who want a Porsche, but cannot really afford to do so, if you are not handy with a spanner they can still be quite costly at times, check inside as well as outside on the sills, bottom of the front wings especially on S2.

History, a wad of service paper may not be a lot of expensive maintenance, check the belt changing history etc, both cars need to have had the cam chain tensioner and slipper changed.

Seller, has the car been cherished, was it pride and joy and why sell also you can get a good feel about the car from the seller.

Mileage is not something to worry about, they will go on well over 200k if maintained, buy on condition before mileage.

Of course all the above is only my opinion........

Good luck and let us know the outcome, what ever model you end up with you will not be disappointed great cars, great fun, great community.
