Hi,

I've got a 84 924 2lt na, all standard at the min, whats the normal course of action for brake upgrades?
I'm guessing it will be something off 944?

Why do you think you need to upgrade?

before spending lots of money, check the calipers and pads are not sticking, give the pistons a good lube with copper slip, get some quality pads and bleed some new fluid thru. you might be surprised at the improvement.

Also make sure the rear brakes are adjusted correctly and drums/shoes in good condition and move freely. As there not self adjusting any wear will make a huge difference to the feel and ability of the brakes over all. After adjusting mine the difference was night and day.

What the above said.

However I would not use copper grease on the callipers (not great experience myself) ; Brake/Ceramic grease works a treat.

Initially I would:

-change the brake fluid
-check the condition of the callipers all around the car.
-lube up the sliding parts of the callipers with ceramic grease.
-check the brake discs (corroded ones don't brake all that well!).

If the brakes feel fine but you want more power I would consider the following:
-either DOT 5.1 or Super DOT 4 fluid (ATE Super Blue is great VFM).
-braided brake lines (HEL lines are superb here)
-better front brake pads (Mintex M1144s are great here if you can get them but Ferodo DS2500s also work very well).

Cheers for the advice guys.

All that is in the pipe line, I was wondering what bolts on though. The brakes at the min are ok (could be better but thats why I'm changing the pads/disks/fluid etc...) but when I upgrade the engine in the future ill need some better brakes so thats why I was asking what people normally do.

Yeah, copper grease is for threads, not brakes. :)

How much power are you expecting? Not sure you'll get any more out of it than a well fettled set of stock 2.0 brakes can handle....circa 140bhp. Are you planning to loose weight in the process? This will help the stock brakes?

Bolt on upgrades are a set of 924 turbo/early 944 brakes and hubs, then you'll need new wheels for 5 lug hubs, all the spindles, hubs, brakes including booster and master cylinder, suspension, trailing arms etc. etc.

Porsche sold the North American market 931 with original K70 brakes. Big brakes and five bolt fixings were an option. Those cars had 150+bhp.
