Gents,

I've made a catastrophic mistake.

I'm now a licenced racing driver as well as rally driver.

This is about to get expensive.

So, in a roundabout way I find myself as part of a 4 man endurance racing team entering a number of events in 2015.

We need a car to build for a particular race next year.

The regs stipulate that it:

a) Must not have a capacity larger than 2000cc (can be FI)
b) Must be 2 wheel drive

In addition to this, and having competed in my first endurance event (an 8 hour race last weekend) it is also apparent that if we expect podiums we'll need:

c) Weight of under 1t wet
d) A minimum of 220bhp/t

Would I be dreaming to try and get a 924T to meet all of those requirements and also be driven on the doorhandles for anything up to 24 hours straight?

Cheers all,

Ben

I do think that the 924T is a much underrated car (and is the ideal car for the CSCC Future Classics series) but can you really expect a 30 year old car to perform well and reliably in endurance races now?

Parts are in short supply. A Honda Vtec will push out the power to weight you desire and be economical too. I assume the series isn't just for historic cars?

There is no doubt that the car will handle well but I seriously doubt that it will be reliable. It may be worth talking to the guys who ran one on the Tour Britannia and Historic Monte a few years ago. I can't remember their names but there were some Brits who ran one.

I really hope that you prove me wrong.

What is the series you intend running in by the way?

Just looked back at another Porsche Club forum where there are some entries about 924 track and race activities and the chap who did the Historic Monte and Tour Britannia in a Group 4 924 T was Rick Pearson. He was co-driven by Stuart Pringle, who I think is the Secretary of the BRDC, if you want to get in touch!

A manual Mitsubishi FTO would be another excellent jap contender (I'd go for the non mivec but the later gx variant)

Thanks chaps.

I know the 924 is far from the ideal car but I wanted to think it through properly before dismissing it.

We'll be building the 'proper' competition car as either a Civic Type R JDM enduro car or, if we can do it properly, a full BTCC Mondeo with long range tank.

The 924 option would be a one off for one race. We'd still want to win it though!

I'm still interested to know what the race series is, and the one off race.

The one off race is my charity's event - www.raceofremembrance.com

The series is an all new 6 round endurance series being put together and launching imminently. Will update when sorted and confirmed.

Thanks, yes I am aware of both of those. Enjoy.

I was hoping to enter the RoR race but my 924S wasn't eligible! And I was off to Belgium for Armistice Day at Ypres that night.

I used to help out a team in Britcar and British GT (pit wall, pit stop strategy and organisation stuff, not a mechanic!) so if I can be a bit of help let me know. We'd seem to be talking on two seperate forums!
