Post subject:  Door speaker problem

Today I replaced all four speakers with JBL 6429s. The rears were relatively easy to fit, the front ones even more so, however the speakers do not come with griles and the Porsche ones are not deep enough to fit on properly. Also when I close the passenger door the temporaorily fitted grille hits the end of the dashboard and falls off.

Any suggestions or experiences with this problem?

Thanks.

Wasn't the consensus those speakers were too big for the grilles?

Did you fit the little grey spacers, the grille always falls off if you do not fit them

Try mounting the speaker under the door card then the grille size is less important

I had this problem too and ended up making my own grills

I think the best fit speakers are the Alpines' wish i'd have got these instead of my Clarions.

Assuming the tweeter/mid range bit in the center of your speaker is hitting the grill they need mounting further back so make yourself a spacer ring from MDF/Plywood/Whatever is lying around in the shed then mount it between the front of speaker & the rear of its mounting plate.

These are the speakers http://uk.jbl.com/jbl_product_detail_uk ... iew-1.html and it's the plastic rim around the speaker that is causing the problem. It is higher than the tweeter in the centre.

I shall try and install them behind the door card, but I don't think that will make much difference. I'll probably put them in the back of my son-in-laws 944 and get something else for the front.

Thanks for your suggestions though.

I replaced mine recently. Slamming the door shut had caused the cones to disintegrate! I found the choice of speakers very limited in 4 x6 size, especially trying to get very shallow ones. Some people fit spacers under the grille, but then it starts to interfere with the glovebox.

I bought some Beat - BSPK46 4" x 6" 2-Way Coaxial Speakers from eBay that did the job. They just about fitted with the original speaker grilles. I seem to remember reducing the thickness of the cardboard gasket by half so they fitted OK.

My problem is the intermittent rear speakers!

I thought JMG garage sold direct replacement alpine speakers in their online store. The sell 2 or 4 speaker set up along with a 4 speaker and natty subwoffer offering.

I need some replacement front door speakers and was thinking about going for these:

Anyone know if they are a straight fit?
