Post subject: | Question on home servicing |
Hi all I am going to service my 944 s2 oil/oil filter/plugs. I do 3000 ish miles per year. My question is do I need to change the fuel and air filters? I last changed these items 2 years ago. I know the air filter will appear quite clean just wonder if they degrade with time. Regards Mark |

This is a can of worms. If it were my car I would be changing all of the filters every 12,000 miles or every 2 years (whichever came first). I believe Porsche specified this schedule for the cars as well (not sure on the years). I know that when I changed all of the filters on my car after it covered 20,000 miles on them there was quite a difference in how the car drove, more than even I expected. It seemed to feel more powerful and perkier! The air filter however was in a truly awful state (so much that I thought it may have been missed off the past few services). The fuel filter however was nearly new and as easy as pie to remove! |

Personally I would replace the oil and filter every year or 6,000 miles (whichever comes first) and due to being so cheap I would also replace transmission oil every year as well The external fuel filter every 2 years The 944 S2 has 2 x fuel filters 1 is in the fuel tank outlet and can be cleaned easily at same time as replacing canister fuel filter ![]() and the canister filter near the rear axle ![]() As for the air filter fit a K+N and clean it out every year ![]() Spark plugs I use NGK Platinum and simply clean and check gap every year and only replace at 40,000 miles ![]() |

Thanks for the replies, I might just fit a K and N air filter. Are the iridium spark plugs any discernable improvement over the cheap oe denso ones? I thought the transaxle oil was changed every 48000 miles or 4 yearly. I only changed this oil 18 months ago for Castrol syntax 75w90. Regards Mark |
