I know this has been covered before, but wanted to revisit it.

My 220 Turbo is blowing a bit from the rear section (funnily enough it is more apparent inside the car at idle, then from outside), and it also sounds like it leaking from the front pipe/wastegate a little when cold.

Anyway, at the moment I have no great plans for massive power. I am more interested in lightly restoring the car then spending lots of money tuning - realistically if I did end up modifying, circa 300bhp would be plenty.

So with that in mind, what are the best options for standard repalcement parts - are there any good quality pattern manufacturers? Is the Dansk system considered pattern? I gather recent quality on these is questionable.

Or would it still be prudent to just go down the custom route, even though I don't plan to chase any big power figures? If so, what diameter is ideal for up to 300bhp?

If custom is the best route, any recommendations for someone in the South East - and rough idea of costs for turbo back?

Had forgotten that H&S make an exhaust for the 944, however, it's pretty pricey at £810 - so that would count me out.

I'd imagine you could get a good quality custom one made for less than that?

I am biased here TBH.

If it were me I would go to a custom exhaust builder and get the exhaust built from the downpipe back with one silencer left at the rear of the car. For some reason (possibly due to being turbocharged) the 944 is great have having a lairy exhaust whilst being more than pleasant within the car (i.e not boomy on the motorway).

At least I found this to be the case on mine when the Wortec was in 'quiet' mode :). After owning that I personally would not go back to a 'stock' system.

The failures of Dansk systems on Porker with some owners in addition to other 'OE systems (in my case Timax (aka Klarus) on various Pugs and Fords and in my friend's case a Renault)) where they have fallen apart and generally fitted as well as a dog's dinner.

I'd suggest genuine (after all, they have lasted well over 20 years) but they are not what you would call a bargain.

My old Focus came with an exhaust from Infinity. It was still as good as the day my friend installed it 50,000 miles later, and the fit was very good.

If I did have a gripe I would say it was the fact that they tend to cut off factory flanges to make their lives easier. On my Focus it meant that when I (stupidly) went back to an 'OE' system it could not be done since there was not enough pipe present. This is not really a problem on a 944 with a cat (the front part of the pipe has to be cut anyway), but I would want them to install a flange on the rear of the cat bypass where it meets the centre section of the exhaust. Of course it would cost more but it would make life easier in the long run.

My view on the matter anyway :).

Some people hate them but I loved my Wortec :D.

The issues if I had to buy one? Price would be the main one if I am honest but there are few systems out there which allow the car to sound antisocial one second yet refined the next with the flick of a switch.

The second is availability. AFAIK I do not think Wortec make these anymore : Promax would be the people to ask. My Wortec was almost a decade old with 30k on the system and it was still in great order :).

I had the last wortec system from Promax unless they have had more made since. I didn't think they were from what Andy said at the time but that's been a little while now.
