Hey all, New to the forum and the world of Porsche's so go easy ![]() I'm looking at an S2 944 which i'd be buying with the goal of tracking. I have seen what i believe to be a good honest example on eBay - ending tomorrow. Here's my dilemma, the car has no service history and i understand the clutch is a £1200 job to replace if its knackered. As I'm currently up in Dundee and the car is in Newcastle i have no way of inspecting the clutch myself. Do you guys know off anyone i could phone to go and have an inspection carried out on the car local to the Newcastle area - or any members who would generously give up an evening to have a nose around it and let me know? I have tried the AA but they wont inspect cars older than 15 years old ![]() Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Mark ![]() |

Hello, If you want a '44 for the track its be cheaper to buy one that's already track day prepared. You Will spend a fortune turning a 20 year old road car into a track day tool. The track prepared cars usually sell for less than the road cars on eBay as they appeal to fewer people & are just a toy! The clutch is fairly minor compared to suspension & engine condition not to mention the body. Look at loads & buy on condition. Don't only look at the S2. But if you are patient a track car will turn up on piston heads or eBay that fits the bill. ![]() |

Quite agree, I've converted quite a few shells for the track & it's damned hard work & not to be under estmated. EMC in Brum may know of a car for sale, they prep loads. |

would be better if it was a non sunroof model, and they are rare, track cars do pop up on both pistonheads and ebay now and then |

Well, never managed to get the S2 i was bidding on ![]() Luckily there seems to be a few out there so I'll just have to exercise some restraint and wait for the right one to come along. I think a standard-ish one is what I'm really after, then as i learn the car and its traits I can slowly and surely upgrade the brakes and suspension etc to allow me to have a fairly capable track car (I'm no Lewis Hamilton after all ![]() Thanks for all the help and comments so far guys, it's much appreciated ![]() Mark. |

Mark, I wouldn't get too hung up on getting an S2, it will be more expensive as well as more complex to fix. A good Lux will be just as much fun as a track car, just as tuneable & easier & cheaper to buy & fix. |

Thanks Jim, I figured later models might have any early faults addressed, that was all. Lux's have the 2.5 and 2.7 (with the 2.7 being rarer? - is that right?) Learning something new everyday ![]() |

A recent article (about three months ago) in 991 & PW outlined the engine changes off all the four cylinder models. Might be worth tracking down a copy. |

MarkR wrote: Excellent, thanks for the info. Will search eBay for the mags and see what turns up - thanks a lot ![]() Mark The only downer on the 2.7 is that it's a halfway house between the 2.5 & the 3 litre & some bits are unique to this engine. The water pump is one. Thta makes it rarer & more expensive, one of my members had belts done a year or so ago & the water pump was fairly expensive compared to an S2 or my Lux. But yes 2.7 a good idea, would also be a good basis for an 8V 3 litre if you wished to upgarde later as the head fits the 3 litre block, this is the way they build big capacity Turbos. |
