Hi I know this is a daft question but I'm changing my track rod ends as my steering boots where past there best and thought I should go all out but I'm struggling to get them to seat back into the hubs!! Is there a special knack or am I just a wimp? Others I have done have just tightened up and self seated, these just spin!!
Anyway anyone who has done this please help!! :D

Duncan -

No chance that you have a 'cross thread' via the nut on shaft? Are they in fact the same thread? Just an idea...

Check that the new rod ends have got a hex socket on the top ... some do so that you can use a hex key to hold then while you tighten them.

I'm lucky enough to have a windy gun which overcomes every tightening or loosening obstacle in the known universe...

Try putting a jack under the trackrod end to give a bit of friction to tighten the nut up.

Cheers guys, I'll look into all that tomorrow with a fresh and less frustrated head.
Then it's change the rear brake flexys, bleed the brakes adjust the headlights and fix the washer motor and I should be good for the MOT! Well here's hopeing!

Make sure there is no oil/grease on the taper, or inside the taper on the hub, then, as said before, a small jack under the t/r end should give enough pressure to hold the taper tight against the hub.

Well thanks for the advice and with a little help from my jack the track rod ends are on!
Got the rear end brakes stripped down and my god how it passed its last MOT is a miracle, all I can say the previous owner must had known a tester...
Got to order, pads, shoes, bleed nipples, hoses and seal kits to rebuild the caliper's!
But hopefully I'll be all sorted soon!

Thanks again.

Duncan.
