I've had a good search around on this one but haven't been able to turn up any useful info... After a successful first year hill climbing in a competitive car (my 106 Rallye) in an relatively uncompetitive class (not many quick sub 1400cc cars around these days!) I've decided to move up a couple of classes so I'm going to prep my 951 to compete in the over 2000cc roadgoing class. I'm thinking it will be a lot of fun and competition in that class is always tough, although I don't expect to win much against the fast Evo's and GT3's! I'm going to be focusing my efforts on suspension (prob KW's) and lightening the car, so removing the aircon is on my hit list as it doesn't work any way. I've noticed Lindsey and the likes sell the delete bracket to mount the alternator, however these are expensive and I wondered if it's possible to fit an alternator bracket and belt off a non-aircon 8v 944? This would obviously be far cheaper and easier to come by, so are there any reasons why this wouldn't work? Cheers |

Did exactly that on my S2 when the compressor clutch bearing failed just before leaving on holiday. The guys at JMG sorted me out with the parts I needed - it took less than an hour to change it all over... G |

Rich Don't remove the a/c lines in the engine bay - they are a pain to replace if you ever want to reinstate the a/c and weigh next to nothing. Of course your lines my be failing anyway - does the a/c work? the rubber parts of the line become porous over time apparently. |

Hi Ed, I've already come to the conclusion that the lines are probably porous, as when Hairyarse owned the car he had the system recharged (last year sometime) but the aircon doesn't seem to do anything apart from smell a little!.. But that's useful advice thanks. Rich |

I have done the same aircon delete .... easi peesi and in 2014 i am also competing in hill climbs and sprints in roadgoing class in my 1986 220hp 944 turbo not particularly competitive against much more powerful and expensive machines but its my first year and practice/progress will come. Ive stripped interior sound deading and put in light weight carpet instead of plush porsche stuff and bucket seats but more weight needs to come out. if you know of any excess metal hidding that can come out let me know too |

That looks great Simon! Those welt springs should help then  how have you been getting on? I'm guessing there's a load of silly evo's and the likes competing over your way? You beat me to that MAF kit too...I'm yet to start stripping as I first need to return my Rallye to standard as I'll probably sell it on now, but as and when I get time over the winter I'll be prepping the 951. Like you I plan to remove the sound deadening and maybe the carpet too. I'm also planning on buying a FG bonnet as there's a few kilos there. Have you weighed yours since removing some bits? |

My 86 turbo weighed 1355 kg with just over quarter tank of fuel and no driver that was standard before stripping out ....electric leather seats were easy 20kg each. Almost perfect 49.51 distribution higher on passenger side Befor  After.

Then this  I was unsure if fibre glass bonnet was alowed in msa road going class 2 ???? i will have to find my blue book its a pity lexan rear hatch is so expensive because with a factory tint i dont even think scrutineers would notice. nope i havent got it weighed since i got rid of air con cruise control door mirrors seats replaced with carbon kevlar buckets carpets replaced with very light black in front shaved under side of boot carpet so far ....... |

That looks pretty svelte now! It would be interesting what it does weigh, but even with the cage I'd guess somewhere around 1200..? In roadgoing you can fit composite bonnet and boot (don't think the latter would apply to a 924/44/68 though), as glass is to remain, carpets and mats can come out but all other trim, panels and equipment has to stay original. Although in my first year I've seen quite a bit of rule bending on this. |

Cheers I'm currently collecting parts to install a/c into my 968 - so have the 'delete' bracket available. could be interested in your cast offs if you still have them? can't pm at moment due to new user status  And
