My 944 S2 - I've changed the wishbones, fitted pollies all over the front and have got 17 inch Boxster twists instead of the 16inch D90s. I installed some s/h 968 front struts to cure the clunk caused by the worn o/s damper bushing but in doing so have obviously displaced the camber setting. I'm going to get the alignment done next week, but want to install 968 caster mounts because that's the done thing especially with the 17 inch Twists I have on the car at the moment. I've heard lot of reasons to swap out the castor mounts for firmer 968 items but was somewhat surprised by the cost of Porsche items when I called at JMG this afternoon - over a ton per piece! So the options are to either stay with stock 944 mounts or re-bush them with pollies but that won't give me the geo that I need to 'help' the 17s on the road. Or buy some pattern 968 items from the 968 shop - has anyone had any experience of these or should I go OE ... or has anyone got a spare set kicking around they want to 'lose' ?? Any ideas?? Cheers Greg |

Seriously?? Have you called Porsche? I was under the impression they were around £70 per pair, and that is what I paid for my brand new ones. Only place I can find online with prices is here, and they are ~£40 each http://www.porsche968uk.co.uk/shop/prod ... ck_880.htm |

Yuuup - those are the patterns jobbies I mentioned and Jon himself told me how the OE ones had shot up in price ... I might give the full geo a miss and just get a quick and dirty front alignment done tomorrow to set the camber then do the full job once the mounts are done ... Decisions decisions ... |

They are pattern? They sure look the same!! With the part number in description I assumed they were genuine. |

I've fitted the Hartech ones on mine £35+vat a side, turned up the next day and no problems with them not that I expected any being Hartech. |

If I am honest I had no problems with the Hartech items on either car but a picky tester would have said that the Hartech items were perishing 5 or 6 years down the line, something the Porsche items do not seem to do when you speak to a few peeps. However, with that in mind I would still be tempted to risk it on a pair of cheaper mounts in this instance (unless the car is a daily driver ; do not ask me about 'cheap ARB drop links' on my 205 which I sold the other week ; items from Peugeot would have saved me cash and time in all honesty all things considered!). If you do decide to go poly I would only look at Chris Witor's stuff from SuperFlex or SuperPro. Sure they are not cheap but they do not go with the cheapest grade of poly, their shore ratings are generally well though out (i.e the ride is bearable, possibly a little comfier) in addition to them not cracking unlike many cheaper poly bushes. |

Thanks for the feedback.. Ive had the same droplink experience - fitted a couple of cheap ones to my daughter's Picasofor the MOT and both boots had gone by the next test - true pieces'o'shite... In fairness my old girl won't be doing vast mileage and if the wife is with me then exuberant driving is out of the question, so I'll probably be ok with the pattern items... Cheers Greg |
