hi all, i'm away at the minute but before i left i spent the afternoon trying to replace the gears on my sunroof. came across a few issues you lot might be able to help with: 1. the peg on ends of the sunroof arms is facing outwards, the guide slots in the roof i'm pretty sure they should sit in are on the wrong side. the roof has never locked that convincingly so i´m inclinded to think the slots need swapping over? if this sounds like giberish i´l get some snaps when i get back. 2.the motor stops in the open position. stops in the locked position BUT doesn´t stop when the arms retract back into the roof. where is the microswitch that stops the motor in this position? cheers all. rick. |

Silly question but did you follow the link to Pelican Parts? The write up is very good and enabled me to reset the micro switches and renew the gears in an afternoon. One thing though the roof mechanisms changed around 1987 I think ( maybe someone will know the exact date) mine is the later pattern. The micro switch to stop the roof when closed is on the motor assembley in the boot. Also by reading the Porsche workshop manual ( available on CD from eBay) is that the length of the operating cable is critical and must be adjusted first. Mine had been wrongly set and thats what messed up the gears. |

the micro in the middle stops you moving the arms with the roof removed |

lindsayhbrown wrote: the micro in the middle stops you moving the arms with the roof removed It also triggers autolock above (5MPH) so won't let you run without the roof locked in place, in other words in the 'ole but not locked down. Mine don't work I don't know if anyone elses does? |

[quote="brulynn"]The micro switch to stop the roof when closed is on the motor assembley in the boot. [quote] i´ve had the motor assembley off, the cam on the back stops when it hits the two little switches mid way, but when trying to retract the arms the motor just pulls all the cable as far as it can and the cam just flies right round. seems to be missing a switch somewhere? |

There is a clutch on the motor assy to prevent gear strippage once the arms reach their mechanical (fully retracteed) limit. I think the breakout (slip) torque for the clutch is something like 6lb but check clarks and pelican, or better still the porsche workshop manuals which you can download from several places. Why they didn't use a third switch I do no know ![]() adam |

Sounds like you have the same problems that I had. The previous owner had been charged a lot of money by a Porsche indy who seems to have only tried to adjust the switches on the motor assembly. The sequence I followed and was successful was to adjust the cable length, adjust the slipping clutch as per Pelican Parts/Clarkes ( I admit that I forgot to mention the the clutch adjustment in my earlier post) fit the gears and then carefully adjust the micro switches if needed. |

sorted it today, the slots in the roof were installed wrongly! swapped them obver and that solved the locking etc. the next thing was clutch slip , clarkes guide king of made it sound like this was adjusted with the 22mm socket. once i'd figured out it was the 2'nd smaller nut fising that was a breeze! knocking all the fiddly jobs down now...only a few little bits on the to do list now ![]() |

I trained on aircraft & the 944 sunroof mech has to be the most complicated way of opening a sunroof I can think of! ![]() |
